Whatever happened, happened

Based on the results of the latest poll most of you seem to agree…whatever happened happened dammit! That is at least what 75% (58%+17%) of you believe, however, you have disagreements on what exactly will happen to the Losties in the past. So to recap the question: What happened at the end of season 5:

58% of you said it was always the incident and the Past Losties got pushed back to the present. Simple and straight forward. I would contend that if this is true then we wouldn’t really need a Season 6, just give us a really long epilogue and tells us what the whispers mean, who Jacob & Smokey are and why the Dharma heli-droppings have continued. All that being said there is a lot of evidence to support this theory.

• First there is Faraday’s statement that you CAN’T change the past and what happened happened. In addition to raising some paradoxical questions, it would be poetic if our Losties caused the incident all along which eventually forced them to crash land on the island.
• Also some people believe Dr. Chang had a prosthetic arm in the Swan video and it was noted that he crushed his arm during “The Incident” serving as circumstantial evidence that whatever happened, happened (WHH)

While the majority of you find solidarity in the WHH camp, you disagree what will happen to the Losties because 17% of you think they will stay in the past. It would be very interesting to see how the Losties in the past would continue to affect the island’s future. There is a popular theory that Rose & White Bernard are really the “Adam & Eve” skeletons and I think that would be a great ending for those characters. Again, I would have to question “what is the point?” if this were the outcome. Plus how is everyone going to survive the radiation fallout if they somehow survive the blast!

17% of you said screw time and the screw the incident, Juliet reset everything and it’s gonna be a whole new ball game. While I REALLY don’t want this to happen, this is what I think is going to happen. I also think the nuke was always the incident so I’m currently fighting a civil war with myself. Clearly they CAN’T erase all the consequences of the previous 5 seasons but I think the writers will toy with us for a while. Jacob said, “it only ends once, anything that happens before that is just progress”. Was he referring to a time loop?? Did Jacob orchestrate the nuke so he could save his own life as I’ve previously predicted?? I don’t know any other way to explain why those particular 5 Losties got sent back in time when the rest of the AA flight crashed on the island. It is also curious why the Oceanic Flight 815 survivors, the boat survivors AND Juliet were jumping in time but The Others stayed put. Also if you remember in season 3 The Others were building a airstrip that AA316 just happened to land on. Last thought on this, I do believe Faraday changed time when he visited Desmond in the hatch which completely negates WHH. He also had the power to change time when he talked to Charlotte and I hope we find out id he did.

Finally, 8% of you are delusional and think the nuke never went off! Come on people, pick a side here!! Juliet smacked the thing 8 times, what more proof do you want?? This theory hurts my head because we will no doubt pick up where we left off and there’s no chance for a Juliet survival thus I can’t get onboard with it…

So there you have it, we are 1 day  away from seeing the Season 6 premier of Lost and I’m DYING right now. Why didn’t I wait until the show ended to start watching it?? Now I’m going to have to go insane week after week waiting for the next episode. I really believe answers are coming but it’s going to be a long season but at least we have each other…

P.S. At the end of every season something blows up. I think the island will blow up at the end of Season 6…

P.S. 2 Full disclosure: There is a video going around of what is supposed to be the first 4 minutes of the premier that ABC released to a lucky bunch of 815 fans and surprisingly one of those fans uploaded to the net. At the time I wrote this article I had not seen the video so this article has not been tainted by any spoilers. That being said I have since watched the 4 minutes and if that video is real…OMG…

The Spoiler Free Season 5

As promised here are the poll results, my Season 4 prediction results, the list of my favorite season 4 episodes and of course my new Lost Season 5 predictions. All in all Lost Season 4 was another great season. People keep asking me which season is my favorite and I keep telling them it’s too difficult to differentiate between all the different seasons (too many at once). Gun to my head I would say Lost Season 3 is my favorite and the worst part of Lost Season 4 was that it was so short due to the strike. I am very aware that the episodes I have left are quickly running out and I have been trying to watch them at a slower pace because I don’t want them to end.

Now for the poll results: 50-50, we had a tie! Much like the Losties, half of you would have followed Locke into the woods to your eventual death (unless you think of yourself as Sawyer, Hurley or Prego) while the other half of you would be safe at the beach. The ironic thing is that Locke was right but he led his people right into danger, while Jack was wrong (*cough* as usual) but kept most of his people safe (except for those who were blown up on the freighter). I think this teaches us to follow the leader who is more concerned with your safety than the safety of a mysterious island that often demands sacrifices.

And now for the Season 4 results, I think I did pretty good:

The Jack Shepard school of predictions (WRONG):

• The 4th season will be all about the island. Why it’s so magical and how it got its properties. What the hell was I thinking?? I’m starting to believe we won’t ever learn this
• In the future flash Kate is returning home to someone we haven’t met yet. Some big bad rich guy type. Who else could have gotten her out of all her legal troubles,  Maybe Mr. Widmore?? Arg! Of course Jack’s plan got her out of trouble and she was going home to Aaron. Really missed the mark on that one

The John Locke school of predictions (CHECK):

• Locke is in the coffin. Nailed it! I lose some points for waffling all season and saying it might be Other Ben after all.
• Time travel is going to be huge. This was a better prediction when I made it in season 3, than when I reiterated right before season 4. There also seems to be more of a space/time thing going on so I don’t know if that affects the purity of this prediction.
• The survivors will leave the island at the cliff hanger of season 4. Other Ben isn’t lying, the bad guys are coming. I think both of these were pretty obvious but I’ll take credit none-the-less.

The Ben Linus school of grey predictions (Half credit):

• The big 5 (Jack, Sawyer, Kate, Locke & Sayid) will not die this season and I believe all 5 will make it to season 6 (I think the coffin future is avoidable). I also think that there is NO WAY Prego (Claire) or Hurley can die. The writers won’t kill the most beloved happy-go-lucky character and they won’t kill a single mom and leave devil baby (Aaron) an orphan. Wow this prediction came out interesting. The coffin future does not appear to be avoidable and I don’t know if Locke’s death counts as a Season 4 death or not. Thoughts? The writers did in fact have Claire abandon her baby but it remains to be seen if she’s dead. I was tempted to put this in wrong category but may be I’ll revisit this prediction at the next season recap.
• Jin dies. I didn’t take credit for this because I’m in denial and still hoping I’m wrong. I’m in danger of being optimistic to the point of foolishness at this juncture…

In a new feature I thought I’d list my top 3 favorite episodes of season 4:

1. Ji Leon. I don’t think this is a surprise to anyone. So well written, didn’t see the flashback and the flash forward coming and it prompted the great Jin debate.
2. The Constant. Again this shouldn’t be a shock because I like Desmond and Penny so much but I also really like how they dealt with time travel in this episode. This is the beginning of our understanding of how Lost will deal with time travel and so far, very cool
3. The Shape of Things to Come. Slingshot’s death and some real moments with Other Ben. As a rule Other Ben flashbacks are awesome.

Least favorite episode: Meet Kevin Johnson. 1) it was about my least favorite character and 2) for an episode that was supposed to cover the large topic of “What happened to Michael & Walt since season 2?” we got very few surprises and boring answers.

Last but not least my Lost Season 5 predictions:

• Lt. Daniels (Matt) kills/killed Locke.
• The physicist and the people on the boat somehow end up back on the island
• The Losties and the Others team up to become one big tribe, but then break up in a civil war (Others/Losties war is the bad thing that happened because Jack left)
• Ghostbuster (Miles) & Prego die this season
• Peter Pan (Richard) is as old as the island
• Aliens built the island (we might not learn this until season 6 though)
• Other Ben is trying to get the O6 back on the island so he can find Penny
• 3 years will not pass for the people on the island like it does for the O6. If we are dealing with time and space, then moving the island (space) means moving time.
• Jin is alive! (I had to..)

Season 3 prediction results and Season 4 predictions

If you were Jack, would you have killed Other Ben?? 56% said Yes, while a more noble (or evil) 44% of you said No! Personally I am obsessed with mysteries (which is why I couldn’t handle this show at a weekly pace for 5 year) so I would have kept Other Ben alive just for some answers. Jack wasted his leverage playing school yard football with Tom. The reason I like Sayid so much is because he would have asked the right questions, he always does. It’s the first thing he did when the Ice Princess (Juliet) switched sides and it would have been his first move. The poll would suggest that Other Ben is a polarizing character but I don’t think he is. Either you love him or you understand why people love him. I don’t believe anyone hates Other Ben as a character.

Now onto the scoring. I definitely fared better this season than the previous two (which should be expected given I have more info) but since I didn’t grade the other 2 seasons, I’m going to list the biggest predictions in the below 3 categories:

Call me Desmond cause I swear I can see the future (check)

• Mr. Eko would be the first to die in season 3!
• Charlie & Tom would die in the finale! I am most proud of the obscure Tom prediction!
• They needed dynamite to blow up the hatch
• The EM force is what ripped apart the plane
• The Others wanted Jack to operate on Other Ben’s spinal tumor
• White Bernard was alive

Did Dumb-ass Dad (Michael) help me with these predictions?? (wrong)

• Invisible dinosaur in the jungle??
• I thought The Others were the tailgaters?? really??
• Nothing bad will happen if they let the clock go to 000…woops
• Charlie would get back on the heroine wagon. I meant to say he would get on the HEROine wagon…
• None of the main characters are going to die! I I made this statement twice! Both times it was immediately followed by a death (Boone than Shannon)
• Michael won’t abandon the survivors and will immediately return to the island to help. What the HELL was I thinking?? And I HATE Michael.
• Aliens created the hatches

Good enough for Dhamra work (partial credit)

• Kate killed her dad. I also said it was an accident and that he molested her.
• A character we hadn’t met knocked out Sayid when he was triangulating the power source. In my defense I made a real strong case for Locke too.
• The island is a gov project that utilizes the strange EM properties. Close but Dharma is not a gov project as far as I know
• Penny will show up on the island before the end of season 3. Well Charlie talked to a her and saw a live video feed of her on the island.
• The Others don’t want to leave because they are doing noble research for Dharma. The Others killed Dharma but they believe they are doing noble research
• Henry Gayle was an Other. Henry Gayle is the leader of the Others

Not a bad score. I balanced out some ridiculous predictions with some dead on death predictions. And now onto the Season 4 predictions (drum roll please)

• The 4th season will be all about the island. Why it’s so magical and how it got it’s properties
• Locke is in the coffin. I thought about it for a while and I think if Sawyer was in the coffin then at least his baby’s mama would show up. Locke truly has no one (unless you count the 1-900 phone sex lady)
• The big 5 (Jack, Sawyer, Kate, Locke & Sayid) will not die this season and I believe all 5 will make it to season 6 (I think the coffin future is avoidable). I also think that there is NO WAY Prego (Claire) or Hurley can die. The writers won’t kill the most beloved happy-go-lucky character and they won’t kill a single mom and leave devil baby (Aaron) an orphan
• Jin dies. After the big 5 plus 2 untouchables it only leaves Other Ben, the Ice Princess & Desmond. Jin has to die because someone does and I don’t think they will kill off Other Ben, Ice or Desmond yet. Other Ben is too great of a character, Ice Princess is too useful and Desmond’s future power is too cool. Plus all 3 of those characters are relatively new and can still be fleshed out more. I suppose Sun could die instead but somehow she’s going to survive this prego thing.
• In the future flash Kate is returning home to someone we haven’t met yet. Some big bad rich guy type. Who else could have gotten her out of all her legal troubles and dolled her up with all that makeup?? Maybe Mr. Widmore??
• Time travel is going to be huge. If they’ve introduced flash forwards then time travel must be important. I think (hope) they will be able to change the future.
• Other Ben isn’t lying, the bad guys are coming. It’s why Jacob asked Locke for help. I think we’ll learn more about Jacob
• The survivors will leave the island at the cliff hanger of season 4. I think they’ll spend the entire season 5 off the island. This is somewhat spoiled because I know they get off and I know the first episode of season 6 is called LA X (damn TV forecast widget) so I’m doing some reasonable guessing
• Sayid will fix 4 transceivers, Jack will cry 8 times, Kate will go back and forth between Sawyer and Jack 15, no make that 16 times, Hurley will say “dude” 23 times, Jin will learn 42 english words and Sawyer will give out 108 nicknames

Next up on Finally Lost…Season 4 begins! I have been told I have no idea what’s in store…saweet

Everyone’s favorite island activity

And the winner of this week’s poll question, “What island activity would you most like to do”….play golf with Hurley of course! 44% of you would like to shoot a round with everyone’s favorite multi-millionare recovering psychotic. I think if the survivors ever get discovered Hurley should use his cash to open up a magic island golf course. Watch out for the invisible smoke thing guarding hole 18…

And the runners up: 25% of voters would like to help Locke open up that hatch, probably because it would be quicker than waiting around for the writers to show you what’s in the hatch. A solid 13% of you would give Sayid a hand with the transceiver hoping that it would be your best chance off the island no doubt. And just a paltry 6% of you would either help Michael with the raft or help Sun garden. Personally I would rather be in the hatch when it blew up than hang out with Michael under any circumstances. Finally I would like to apologize to disappointed readers that requested “getting caught in a net” with Sawyer (4 write-ins) or Kate (2 write-ins). I should have known that’s there only 1 activity people really want to do on a deserted island. If I was a gambling man I would say that “netting” with Sawyer would have gotten more votes than any girl I could have listed…

The next poll is up and I’m interested in seeing your reaction: When you first saw the episode in which Jack operated on Other Ben’s tumor, did you want Jack to kill him?

Sawyer and Sayid, your poll winners

Say hello to the winners of the “who is your favorite character poll”…Sawyer and Sayid. Before we look at the favorite characters lets look at who didn’t get any votes:
- Jack: I guess he really does cry to much for his own good. No one voted for the fearless leader! It’s like teenage mutant ninja turtles, everyone loves Michelangelo and Rafael but there’s no love for Leonardo. All Jack’s done is keep the survivors together, safe, and given them hope. Plus he has a sick golf game.
- Kate: This surprised me more than anything else. I thought we’d have SOME Kate lovers. She’s a hott bad ass rebel with a heart of gold. She can fight, track, shoot and steal, what’s not to love about Kate?? Who else could manipulate a gang to rob a bank for a toy airplane??
- Charlie: Everyone’s not so favorite junky rockstar. I agree with this non-pick. While I like Charlie, he hasn’t really done anything that stands out. He is an underachiever among superstars (Locke, Sayid, Kate, Jack, Sawyer I’m looking at you). His codependence on Prego is pretty annoying and someone needs to tell him that he is not Aaron’s dad.
- Prego (Claire):  I like Claire, I just don’t love her. I do however love the psychic story line so I’m hoping the writers take her character somewhere beyond the crying mom that’s always defending her baby.
- Boone: He probably died too early in the series for people to really get attached to. Then there was the thing where he banged his hott step sister. Not sure if that helps or hurts his cause. Props for being Locke’s understudy, getting seriously injured while on the plane radio and for accepting his death in order to conserve the already scarce medicine.
- Sticks (Shannon): You all know she is not my favorite character. Sadly she also died too early (my bad). She could have made a comeback with the whole looking for Walt mission but I think it was too little to late.
- Michael: The character I hate most. What’s most frustrating is I only hate him when he’s dealing with Walt. If he’s looking for Walt or talking to Walt I want him to moonwalk right into the defense mechanism/invisible dino. When he’s playing with the adults (raft building time with Sawyer & Jin) then I really like Michael. Plus points for building the raft, minus points for bailing on your kid shortly after he was born.
- Walt: It was going to be really hard for the kid to get some votes. You got to like the fact that everything seems to go his way except of course when he gets kidnapped by The Others. I’m hoping he gets rescued and becomes more of an interesting character.
- Sun: I’m pretty shocked that no one voted for her. I think Sun is such a deep and intriguing character. She runs a garden, learns english on the sly and stays with her husband even though it may not be the best choice at the time. I forgot to put Jin up there and I hope he would have gotten at least one vote. He seems to be loyal to Michael and Sawyer and he still loves Sun. I’m looking forward to Jin developing as a more complete and beloved character.

Now onto the characters that did receive votes:
- Hurley (2 votes):  Known best by the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 for creating a golf course and hosting junkfood-thanksgiving, Hurley is probably the most well-liked survivor. Add the ingredients that he can’t keep a secret, is worth $130M, and knows about the numbers, and you have a lovable character.
- Someone I haven’t met yet (3 votes): I’m going to go out on a limb here and say this is either Mr. Ed (Eko) or Desmond. I don’t know much about Desmond but Eko rocks. He saved my favorite character (Sawyer) and doesn’t listen to Mean Bitch (Ana). I also love that he gave up speaking for 40 days.
- Locke (3 votes): John Locke, the man, the myth, the legend. Conned out of a kidney by his own father, crippled for a so-far-unexplained reason, un-crippled for a so-far-unexplained reason, master hunter, master tracker, hatch discoverer, hatch opener and of course ALWAYS knows what is troubling the survivors (and often helps them through it). Minus points for the preachy faith thing, otherwise full-fledge bad ass.

And the WINNERS are (2-way tie):
- Sayid: I think I know why people love Sayid. He’s tough, he always knows what to do and he’s always fixing some ridiculous electronic device. He tends to fly off the handle a bit but that’s just part of his charm. I have high hopes for Sayid. I’m still holding out hope that he will meet his great Iraqi love if (when?) they get off the island. I also think he will be a key contributor because he’ll fix some yet-to-be-seen device to get them to safety. Sayid you are a winner!

- Sawyer
My favorite character. He’s the survivor you are supposed to hate but like Kate you can’t help falling in love. Like every misunderstood bad boy with a complicated and tragic past, he tries to do the right thing when you least expect it (telling Jack about his father, attempting to protect Walt). He also shares my hobbies of nicknames and doesn’t let the fact that he’s on a deserted island get in the way of him having the perfect amount of bad boy scruff. Looking forward to Sawyer becoming more domesticated with Kate as the show moves along…
